Are you interested in getting your pilot license but your not sure where to begin or even if you are going to enjoy flying? Then the introductory flying lesson is the perfect place to start. The introductory flying lesson also referred to as discovery flight or an intro flight, is the first step in obtaining your pilot license, whether it is for a recreational pilot permit or a private pilot license. The intro flight offers potential student pilots the opportunity to see what it is like in an aircraft. Enjoy an informal and low-stress flying lesson where you will get to take the controls and try some basic flight maneuvers.

What Can I expect during the Intro Flight?

When you arrive at the airport, you will be greeted by one of our friendly staff members and introduced to your flight instructor. Your flight instructor will ask you some basic questions such as what are your goals in aviation? Have you ever been in an aircraft before? etc. Next, you will sit in one of our briefing areas with your instructor and talk about what to expect during the flight. You will also discuss the basics of handling the aircraft in the air a well as any other information you need to know for the flight. This ground briefing will last approximately 15 minutes.

After the ground briefing, you will get ‘signed out’ and proceed to the aircraft with your instructor. Every flight must start with a pre-flight inspection, also known as a walkaround, of the aircraft. This ensures that the aircraft is safe for flight. During the walkaround, your instructor will explain various parts of the airplane, feel free to ask as many questions as you want.

After the walkaround, you and your instructor will get in the aircraft for the flight portion. Your instructor will perform the takeoff and landing for this flight but once the aircraft reaches altitude, you will have a chance to take the controls and fly the airplane on your own. Again, you are encouraged to ask as many questions as you would like. There is no such thing as a silly question. The flight portion of the introductory flying lesson will last 45 minutes from engine start to engine shut down.
